folgers coffee the history and background of the folgers coffee company

In 1963, Proctor and Gamble acquired the company. Folger, it took the United States (the largest coffee market in the world) by storm. Founded in the 19th century in San Francisco, California by J.A. Part of Proctor and Gamble, Folgers Coffee is one of the biggest brands of coffee in America today. In Canada, Folgers coffee is limited to Classic Roast and Mountain Roast. There are eight types (called families) of Folgers Coffee in America today: Cafe Coffees, Coffee Pods, Instant Coffees, Folgers Gourmet Selections, Flavored Coffee (Hazelnut, French Vanilla, Chocolate Silk and Cinnamon), Simply Smooth, Coffeehouse Series and Classic Roast. The well known slogan "the best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup!" resonated well with audiences and boosted sales. Quite possibly the most catchy thing about the Folgers Coffee brand is the commercials it ran. Other popular television ad campaigns featured people sneaking in to four-star restaurants and replacing the expensive coffee that customers are used to drinking with Folgers Crystals. Not surprisingly, nobody could ever tell that the expensive coffee had been replaced with the cheaper instant version. In the 1980s and 1990s, Folgers started experimenting with less traditional advertising, sponsoring NASCAR racing. By sponsoring popular drivers, it was almost as though NASCAR itself was endorsing the brand, and the ad campaign was fairly successful. In 2006, yet another untraditional ad campaign was launched through viral marketing. Created by the ad agency Saatchi and Saatchi, the ads known as ìhappy morningsî were seen all over YouTube and various weblogs. In the ads, cheery and happy singers and dancers show up at sunrise to wake people up to greet the day. Dateline NBC held a taste test of most popular brands of coffee, and in their experiment Folgers Classic roast scored last place.

gourmet coffee what makes it so special

From the time it was first uncovered, coffee has been one of the most popular drinks around the globe, mainly for it's aromatic flavour and invigorating qualities. From mild Italian espresso to thick strong Turkish coffee, the choice of flavour was pretty much still coffee with milk and sugar. Until recent times, coffee suppliers offered few alternatives other than your usual, short black, long black, latte, cappuccino, vienna and further choices among these. No longer are gourmet coffees only reserved for a rare treat, but an increasing number of people keep gourmet coffees on their shelves for any occasion. Coffee now comes in just about any flavour, strength or combination to please even the most fastidious consumer. But today's coffee connoiseur has become far more sophisticated. So How do we Define Gourmet Coffee Anyway? Gourmet coffee is simply regular coffee to which has been added compatible flavours that actually enhance its coffee aroma and taste. The basic coffee taste, texture, aroma and pick-me-up effect is still present, but now includes a hint of, let's say, mint, caramel, bacon, vanilla, chocolate or any other tantalizing possibility. Add to that, the subtle variations in flavour and texture of coffee beans from selected areas of the planet with varying climates and elevation and you have the ideal combination for gourmet coffee. This is what gives gourmet coffee its unique quality. Most of us have at some time enjoyed a nice cup of coffee with something to nibble. It may be choc-mint buscuits, cheesecake, nuts, savoury snacks, pizza or any other imaginable delight. With a gourmet coffee, you can feel like you're enjoying both, without actually consuming the food. Where Can I Purchase Gourmet Coffee? Gourmet coffee is available in most grocery stores but the most convenient way to access a wider selection, is to buy online. Numerous gourmet coffee websites are waiting for you to order from their extensive range. Gourmet coffee has become a sought after gift idea. They're great for housewarming parties and are the perfect business gift. Many online suppliers, such as Boca Java, offer gift arrangements which include not only the coffee, but also accessories to add to the appeal. The definition of gourmet is a fine food or drink that has been approved by a recognized authority to be excellent. Today, the coffee industry is becoming more like the wine industry, where experts put their credibility on the line to evaluate quality. Bottom line is, if they say it's good, it must be good. Gourmet coffee has earned its name. One of the most highly priced gourmet coffees, is Jamaican Blue Mountain, mainly because it is so rare due to the effect of uncertain weather conditions on the crops. Its beans are not only used for brewed coffee, but are also the flavor base for the famous Tia Maria coffee liqueur. Most online suppliers of any standing will include Jamaican Blue Mountain on their menu. The term "gourmet coffee" not only refers to just the coffee itself, but includes all of the aspects, activities, techniques and experience that produces that kind of coffee. From the selection of the beans, the masterful roast, adding unique flavour... to the final product. Gourmet coffee is the result of a complete and specialised process. Can you smell the aroma now?

differences in onecup coffee makers

However, in recent years, there have been advancements in coffee makers, and the most popular new type of coffee makers is one cup coffee makers out there on the market today. They would brew a pot of coffee, which was then poured into several different cups. For many years, coffee makers were just that. An individual would add a spoonful of coffee, and wait a few moments for the pot to This allows a person to make only one cup at a time. An individual would add a spoonful of coffee, and wait a few moments for the pot to percolate. These smaller coffee pots only hold enough water for one cup of coffee at a time. One of the initial advances one-cup coffee makers offered were smaller coffee pots, which saved time and unused coffee grounds. One of the biggest challenges was that it was often difficult to measure out the amount of coffee needed for one cup of coffee, and not have to worry about deciding how much coffee to put in their one cup coffee makers. However, there are many more advancements one-cup coffee makers have to offer than just smaller decanters. With a pod coffee maker, a person puts in enough water to have one cup of coffee. Then, instead of putting loose coffee into the coffee maker, a pod is put there instead. The pod is constructed out of coffee-filter material, with the pre-measured coffee inside of it. The pod is placed into the coffee pot; hot water is run through it, creating the perfect cup of coffee. There are also one-cup coffee makers that make coffee directly into the mug. These coffee makers use portioned packets or pods to have just the right amount of coffee grounds. The mug is part of the coffee maker itself. Hot water is poured into the coffee maker, and the coffee is percolated directly into specially made mugs that attach to the coffee maker. These coffee pots are very easy to use and very convenient. However, if the coffee mug is lost or broken, the entire coffee pot cannot be used. Some of the brands have replacement coffee mugs that can be purchased. There are many reasons that a person might want to use a one-cup coffee maker. With the pods and portioned packets, a person can choose one single type of coffee each day. A husband can have one type of coffee while a wife has another type of coffee. Also, a person can have only one cup of coffee at a time. Many people prefer this because they do not have to wait for an entire pot of coffee to brew. Usually, one cup coffee makers brew the coffee in a matter of minutes. The revolution of one cup coffee makers has led to an influx in the coffee market in general. In the past, flavored coffees and specialty coffees were not sold as much because people did not want to make entire pots of different coffees. However, with the advent of the one-cup coffee makers, specialty coffee brands are introducing new products all the time. Different flavors can be alternated with little effort, and this feature is one that many individuals greatly prefer. Some people enjoy one-cup coffee makers because it allows them to experiment with different kinds of coffee without purchasing a whole bag of coffee grounds. Also, if they do not like the flavor, a one-cup coffee maker does not create too much waste. The common perception is that people are more likely to try various kinds of coffee when they only have to try one cup at a time. In this environmentally conscious world, this thought process makes perfect sense. Also, a person is much more likely to try out different types of coffees if they can purchase variety packs of many different types to use in their one cup coffee makers. In this case, less is certainly more, and coffee-lovers everywhere are enjoying this advancement one cup at a time. As with many other popular products, there is an evolution in how a product is brought to the consumer.

my first keurig

I was initially skeptical when a good friend mentioned that I must purchase a Keurig Single Cup Coffee Brewer. Greg, who unfortunately lives out of town, is the same friend who's opinion I trusted most. With a little online research and a lot of assurance from him, I decided to purchase the Special Edition B60 Single Cup Coffee Brewer. Now with the machine and its many varieties of coffee, tea and cocoa packets in my possession, I was ready to start brewing.
Since my past consisted of only owning multi-cup drip coffee makers, I was excited to realize my days of chugging hours old sludge were over. I always despised making a full jug of four, eight or twelve cups of coffee each day, just to pour the majority away hours later. What a waste. In the present, my life has changed with the Keurig Single Cup, brewing one delicious hot cup of coffee or tea at a time. It's been 10 years since the introduction of the innovative Keurig single-cup brewing system. Sometimes I'm slow in realizing new advancements and the Keurig is no exception. Since you can't make up lost time, I shall move forward with my large variety of coffees, teas, and cocoas and start making some delicious treats.
Let us first start with the type of water to use. Tap water is fine, however I suggest bottled spring water if you want a better tasting coffee. Next, you will have to shop for the patented Keurig K-cups. They offer more than 190 varieties of coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. Varieties of coffee from light to extra bold, flavored, decaffeinated, half-caffeinated, to full caffeine all from famous name blends. Several different varieties of tea are also available, as well as Ghirardelli Premium Hot Cocoa. My favorites included Emerils Big Easy Bold Coffee with its invigorating deep smokey flavor, and the Celestial Seasonings Decaffeinated Green Tea with its smooth flavor and natural goodness using a compound that occurs naturally in the tea leaves. I found the full-bodied brew of this green tea an evening delight, relaxing me prior to bedtime.
Now that you made your choice of coffee or tea, all you have to do is turn on the brewer, and fill with the desired amount of water. The brewer will notify you when the right amount of water is in the machine. Place a single serve cup beneath, choose your cup size and hit brew button. Wow, this is simple! In less than a minute the Keurig well say when the cup of coffee or tea is ready. After using the coffee maker cup the manufacturer recommends, you can rinse out the machine by brewing a cup of hot water without a K-cup. This ensures a perfect cup for the next person who may choose a different flavor. This is especially helpful for the Keurig coffee maker in the office. Speaking of office, now I know where i'll put my Second Keurig Coffee Maker . If I only had a summer home. Before I forget, I must once again thank Greg for another excellent recommendation.

a look at a few ideas for removing coffee stains

Maybe, twenty years ago, coffee stains were labeled among the most difficult to clean type of dirt from all sorts of clothes; fortunately, due to the large number of modern detergents, stain removing has become both efficient and effortless. However, despite the existence of advanced chemical substances that eliminate dirt almost instantly, most traditional methods to remove coffee stains have been preserved. Here are a few things you can try when you have to improvise or find an immediate solution to fresh coffee stains, particularly when you have to take into consideration the nature of the fabric.

The only problem with chemical removers used to clean coffee stains is that after treating the affected area, you need to launder right away. However, this is not possible all the time due to a whole range of conditions and elements that depend on the situation. This is when a traditional solution may be applied: use some white vinegar combined with fresh cold water and apply the solution on the stain preferably with a sponge. The procedure should not be more complex than wiping the surface clean actually. Afterwards, you may do the laundry together with the rest of your clothes.

Two other ideas for removing coffee stains come from the same culinary field: this time we're talking about baking soda and egg yolk solution. First of all, baking soda triggers a chemical reaction that favors the elimination of stains by actually dissolving the coffee compounds from within the fabric. Moreover, the use of egg yolk in combination with a little alcohol and two spoonfuls of warm water, may also be a viable solution against superficial coffee stains. The only problem you may notice when using such domestic stain removing tips is that dirt not be eliminated completely from the clothes.

It goes without saying that the best way to make sure that all coffee stains are eliminated completely is by using a special remover available in stores. However, a tip is worth mentioning here as well, don't ever allow a coffee stain to set since it becomes a lot more difficult to remove under such circumstances. Even if you don't do the laundry right away, you should still try to get the item in fresh water so that the coffee stain may soak and be more easy to remove. Powder, spray or liquid stain removers all work well under such circumstances, allowing a complete laundry making after application.
