And You Thought Coffee Was Bad for You!

I am sure that if you are a coffee enthusiast, you have heard this, but if not let me state it here. "Coffee is good for you!"

"Coffee is good for you!"

Recent research has shown that coffee is the number one source of antioxidants in the American diet. Antioxidants, are nutrients that are responsible from protecting your body's cells from being destroyed by toxins. This destruction has been linked to an increased risk of certain medical conditions, such as cancer, heart disease and others.

Antioxidants are found in the good stuff that our mothers made us eat when we were little, namely fruits & veggies. Amazingly, many of us didn't listen and took up coffee instead because more Americans get their daily dose of antioxidants from coffee than from broccoli!

The top 10 list for the the source of antioxidants in the Americandiet were listed as follows:

1. Coffee 2. Black Tea 3. Bananas 4. Dried Beans 5. Corn 6. Red Wine 7. Beer 8. Apples 9. Tomatoes 10.Potatoes

Research also showed that there was esentially no difference between the amount of antioxidants in regular versus decaf coffees.

Now this doesn't mean that you should run out and consume mass amounts of coffee. Like everything in life, moderation is the key!

And by the way, you should still eat your fruits and veggies, just finish them off with a great cup of coffee!

After WLS Patients Must Give-up Coffee, Tea, Soda and Alcohol to Sustain Weight Loss

Dieters are often told - drink water. Drink a minimum of 64 ounces a day - eight glasses a day. Gastric-bypass patients don't have a choice: they must drink lots water. Other beverages including coffee, tea, milk, soft drinks and alcohol are forbidden. Water is the essential fluid for living. Water is one of the most important nutrients the body needs to stay healthy, vibrant and energetic. A tell-tell sign of a gastric bypass patient is the ever-present water bottle.

The restrictive and malabsorptive nature of the gastric bypass causes several things to go wrong if a patient partakes of caffeine coffee or tea, high-caloric or alcoholic beverages. The caffeine assimilates into the blood stream very quickly causing jitters and nervousness more-so than a normal digestive system. The high-caloric beverages are easily absorbed through the shortened intestine causing a weight plateau or weight gain. And alcohol is absorbed with break-neck speed causing intoxication, vomiting or dumping.

Knowing this bariatric centers advise patients to drink water throughout the day to avoid dehydration. However, patients are told to avoid drinking water with meals as it will facilitate food movement through the small stomach pouch allowing a person to consume more food.

Nutritionists say a precise measure of the body's need for water is to divide body weight (pounds) in half and drink that many ounces every day. That number could well exceed 200 ounces a day for morbidly obese people actively engaged in weight loss. Most doctors advise gastric bypass patients to consume 64 to 72 ounces of water daily.

Coffee Shops

But have you ever wondered when the first coffee shop started? For most harried career individuals, a visit to their coffee shops for a nightcap with friends and business associates is their idea of a relaxing evening.

It quickly grew in popularity, and by 1675, three thousand coffeehouses were born in England. Boston welcomed its own version of this haven for coffee lovers in 1670, while Paris opened the doors of its first-ever coffee shop in 1671. The first coffee shop opened in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1554, while the first coffeehouse opened in Cornhill, London, in 1652.

Its success was akin to that of tobacco in seventeenth-century Europe. The first coffee plantation in modern times was started in Brazil, in 1727, using slave laborers from Africa. A more credible version asserts that the first coffee shop opened in Krakow, in the sixteenth or seventeenth century, owing to its close trade ties with the Turks. The coffeehouse was started using supplies left behind by the losing Turks. As the legend goes, the first coffeehouse was believed to have opened in Vienna in 1683, after the Battle of Vienna.

For the French, Spanish, and German people, a café is a place where a wide variety of beverages are served, ranging from different types of coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages. In the Netherlands, the term coffee shop is used to refer to places where marijuana is sold, since one needs fewer permits to open a coffee shop. The Dutch people associate the word with bars and thus relate it more to alcohol. The term "Café" is synonymous with a place where coffee and meals are served together.

Visit your favorite coffee shop and take your pick from among these wonderful concoctions, sure to warm your hearts and lift your spirits. What are you waiting for? In addition to those blended commercially, a lot of coffeehouses have their own signature house blends.

The Changes You Want - "Coffee House Conversations"

Everywhere you go, you hear people talk about the changes they want to make in their lives. Certainly while your getting your coffee or tea at the coffee house you do.

"I want to lose weight."

"I want a better job."

"I want to make more money."

Maybe for you it's travel, education, meeting someone or improving a current relationship. We all have goals and changes we want that go unresolved. So we talk a lot about wanting them to change. How often does anyone really do anything about changing? In fact, after a while you'll start hearing the wants turn to complaints. Then the complaints turn into reasons why success is not possible. "I don't have the time or money or ability." There are an endless number of reasons.

As a life coach, people are always telling me why they are stuck and why they can't do certain things. "I don't like to workout." or "I'm too forgetful." Basically what they're telling me is, "I have no control over my own behavior." Here's one we have all heard from someone, "I'm not a morning person."

What if I offered a "non-morning person" a million dollars to be a morning person tomorrow morning? Most people would say, "Well, for a million dollars I could be." So in truth, it's not that you are not a morning person, or that you don't have the time or any of the other reasons you give that prevent you from the changes you want, you simply haven't found the motivation.

With the right motivation, and it doesn't have to be money, you can change and create winning actions in your life. You are not locked into any behavior. Stop placing limits on yourself and talking about the changes you want and the reasons you can't achieve them. There is no definition of you other than the definition you give yourself.

We all have the power to redefine ourselves and create the lives we want. Let me show you how powerful you are. Take a sip of your coffee or tea and let me ask you this: Right now, could anything stop you from taking that sip? Oh, you don't have a coffee or tea? Then get one or imagine you have one. Barring a sudden, catastrophic natural disaster, the answer is no, nothing can. The only thing that could stop you from taking a sip is…you!

In fact, nothing can stop you from going to the gym, eating right, getting an education, looking for a better job, paying attention to your relationships, not spending money on your credit cards or doing the things you should to make your life better. Nothing can stop you from anything you want to improve in your life except you. You are the only obstacle in your life.

We need to stop blaming outside factors for our behavior. There is no boogeyman keeping you from creating the life you want. We also have to stop looking for shortcuts. We tend to fall into the trap of wanting instant gratification and there are plenty of folks trying to sell this junk. I hate to be the one to tell you this but there are no magic pills that will make you thin, cure your life in seven days, get rich over night or have great abs in two weeks.

There is only one sure way to success and that's doing the work. This means we must get into action. Get motivated to change right now! Motivation is power and we have established here that being powerful is as simple as taking a sip of coffee or tea.

So enjoy the rest of your coffee or tea and smile while you take that sip, because right now you are powerful and right now you've decided to get into action to achieve the changes you want.

Coffee Tips & Teazers

I hope you are able to enjoy them as much as I have. These are a few tips and recipes given to me by various people over the years. I want to introduce you to my Coffee Tips & TEAzers. Many people are sick of the same old routine, and want to try something different. I like my coffee fresh, hot, and black. It is said that change is good, but not for everyone.

Coffee Tip #1

It will keep your coffee & teas fresher longer. This prevents the air from making your coffee and teas stale. The only way to guarantee fresh Coffee & Tea every time is to vacuum pack your beans, grounds, tea bags, or loose-leaf teas. The only thing that beats a hot cup of coffee in the morning is a FRESH cup of hot coffee.

Coffee Tip #2

You have a hot cup of chocolate mocha! Presto! Then add whip cream and chocolate sprinkles. Stir completely until your coffee is a tan color. Then add a splash of half & half creamer. Try adding some chocolate syrup to your coffee. Try flavored syrups there are many different flavors to choose from and you can combine the flavors to make something unique. If you are board with the traditional way coffee is presented then I have some ideas that will give your coffee some pizzazz.

Coffee Tip #3

This is a unique recipe Cafe Speciale

· 4 teaspoons chocolate syrup
· 1/2 cup heavy cream
· 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
· 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
· 1 tablespoon sugar
· 1-1/2 cups extra-strength hot coffee

Put 1 teaspoon chocolate syrup into each of 4 small cups. Combine cream. 1/4-teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar. Whip. Stir remaining 1/2-teaspoon cinnamon into hot coffee. Pour coffee into cups. Stir to blend with syrup. Top with whipped cream. Makes 4 servings.

TEAser#1
The problem with tea bags is that you really don't know how fresh the tea is. With loose-leaf teas you can feel the texture and see the tea more clearly. The smell alone can be deceiving. Some companies have been known to spray their teas with scents that make them smell fresh, but are they really?

TEAser#2
Mango Tea (By The Pitcher)
Fill Pitcher with Ice
Add 5 oz. Monin Mango Tea
Fill with 50 oz. Water
Stir Well

Raspberry Tea (By The Glass)
Fill 12 oz. Glass with Ice
Add 1 oz. Monin Raspberry Tea
Top off with 10 oz. Water
Stir Well

Minted Mango Tea
1 cup chopped refrigerated mango slices
1-cup pineapple juice
8 green tea bags
2 4-inch mint sprigs
4 cups boiling water
1 to 2 tablespoons sugar
Ice cubes

Directions

1. In a medium saucepan bring water to boiling. Add tea bags, anise, and cinnamon stick. Reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 3 to 5 minutes. Discard tea bags and cinnamon stick. Stir in nectar, honey, and lemon juice. Heat through.

2. Pour tea mixture into four heatproof cups, floating a star anise on top of each. Makes 4 servings.

Coffee in Today's Culture.

Coffee plays an significant function in today's culture. From the coffee houses of the 16th century, to the current day cafes, coffee has impacted the way of life of people from all walks of life.

From a cultural point of view, coffee houses mainly function as centers of social interaction: the coffeehouse provides social members with a spot to gather together, chat, write, read, entertain one another, or pass the time, whether individually or in little groups.

A coffee house shares some of the characteristics of a saloon and some of the characteristics of a eating place. Coffee houses serve up coffee and tea, as well as light foodstuff. Food choices range from pastries and muffins to soups and sandwiches. In some countries, cafes more intimately bear a resemblance to restaurants, offering a range of hot meals, and perhaps being licensed to serve up alcohol.

Some shops are minute cafes that specialise in coffee-to-go for rushed travelers, who may visit these on their way to jobs as a stand-in for breakfast. Some offer other services, such as wireless internet access which has carried over to stores that supply internet service lacking any coffee for their customers.

In some countries, notably in northern Europe, coffee parties are a well-liked type of entertaining. As well as coffee, the host or hostess at the coffee social gathering in addition serves cake and pastries, every now and then homemade.

a beginners guide to choosing keurig kcups

The Keurig coffee maker is quickly rising in popularity across North America. Gone are the days of purchasing the old fashion coffee brewer, with separate filters to purchase and a glass pot to wash. The Keurig coffee maker brews in a few easy steps. Just put in a new K-Cup portion pack and press the start button. Within 30 seconds, you have a freshly brewed cup of your favorite gourmet coffee or tea.

But what if you don’t know what your favorite coffee is? Keurig provides nearly 200 different coffee, tea and hot cocoa K-Cups from which to choose! With so many options, the coffee selection process can seem like an impenetrable jungle of hard-to-understand descriptions and unfamiliar varieties. If you aren’t an expert at “coffee jargon” and aren’t up for endless flavor experimentation, then it is best to do a bit of research before you buy. After all, you want as few hurdles between you and that steaming cup of coffee as possible.

One of the biggest factors in the flavor of coffee is the roast. Before you choose between popular brands and specialty flavors, it helps if you understand the flavor differences created by the roasting process. The beans are made darker through processing at a higher temperature, often for a longer length of time. The roast helps to determine the richness, bitterness, and smoothness of the cup of coffee.

Light Roast : Milder tasting coffee. Beans are characterized by a golden brown hue and dry surface. Sometimes acidic tasting or may lack body. Light roasting preserves more of the natural subtle flavors of the coffee beans, allowing the drinker to taste differences in bean quality.

Medium Roast : Offers a balanced flavor with a less acidic taste. Medium roasting may create a slightly sweeter taste than a light roast. Beans are characterized by a medium, chocolate-brown hue. Compromises between the natural bean flavor and the flavor produced through the roasting process.

Dark Roast : Full-bodied coffee with a smoky or spicy taste. Beans are characterized by a dark brown hue and shiny, somewhat oily surface. Derives most of its flavor through the roasting process and may lose some of the natural bean flavor.

Once you’re aware of the type of roast you prefer, you can easily seek out different coffees in that category. For instance, if you enjoy a light roast, you may want to try Van Houtte Costa Rica Coffee or Timothy’s Morning Blend Coffee. Medium roast aficionados can choose between great options like Green Mountain Coffee Roasters’ Nantucket Blend or Tully's Full City Roast. If you’re a fan of dark roasts, you may prefer Caribou French Roast Coffee or Gloria Jean’s Black Gold Coffee.

There may seem to be an unlimited number of factors that go into the creation of a type of coffee. Don’t let yourself become overwhelmed with coffee possibilities. But, if you put your taste buds to the test, you will soon figure out which roast is right for you. Before you know it, you may even end up a coffee connoisseur! And then you can wow your friends with your new knowledge of the gourmet coffee world.

my first keurig

I was initially skeptical when a good friend mentioned that I must purchase a Keurig Single Cup Coffee Brewer. Greg, who unfortunately lives out of town, is the same friend who's opinion I trusted most. With a little online research and a lot of assurance from him, I decided to purchase the Special Edition B60 Single Cup Coffee Brewer. Now with the machine and its many varieties of coffee, tea and cocoa packets in my possession, I was ready to start brewing.
Since my past consisted of only owning multi-cup drip coffee makers, I was excited to realize my days of chugging hours old sludge were over. I always despised making a full jug of four, eight or twelve cups of coffee each day, just to pour the majority away hours later. What a waste. In the present, my life has changed with the Keurig Single Cup, brewing one delicious hot cup of coffee or tea at a time. It's been 10 years since the introduction of the innovative Keurig single-cup brewing system. Sometimes I'm slow in realizing new advancements and the Keurig is no exception. Since you can't make up lost time, I shall move forward with my large variety of coffees, teas, and cocoas and start making some delicious treats.
Let us first start with the type of water to use. Tap water is fine, however I suggest bottled spring water if you want a better tasting coffee. Next, you will have to shop for the patented Keurig K-cups. They offer more than 190 varieties of coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. Varieties of coffee from light to extra bold, flavored, decaffeinated, half-caffeinated, to full caffeine all from famous name blends. Several different varieties of tea are also available, as well as Ghirardelli Premium Hot Cocoa. My favorites included Emerils Big Easy Bold Coffee with its invigorating deep smokey flavor, and the Celestial Seasonings Decaffeinated Green Tea with its smooth flavor and natural goodness using a compound that occurs naturally in the tea leaves. I found the full-bodied brew of this green tea an evening delight, relaxing me prior to bedtime.
Now that you made your choice of coffee or tea, all you have to do is turn on the brewer, and fill with the desired amount of water. The brewer will notify you when the right amount of water is in the machine. Place a single serve cup beneath, choose your cup size and hit brew button. Wow, this is simple! In less than a minute the Keurig well say when the cup of coffee or tea is ready. After using the coffee maker cup the manufacturer recommends, you can rinse out the machine by brewing a cup of hot water without a K-cup. This ensures a perfect cup for the next person who may choose a different flavor. This is especially helpful for the Keurig coffee maker in the office. Speaking of office, now I know where i'll put my Second Keurig Coffee Maker . If I only had a summer home. Before I forget, I must once again thank Greg for another excellent recommendation.

how coffee shops differ from restaurants and cafs

Also frequently known as coffeehouses, coffee shops are the cozy locals where you go to have a good cup of coffee either with some friends or on your own, so as to quietly read a newspaper. Coffee shops differ from restaurants and cafés, since they predominantly offer a variety of coffee and tea, without serving anything else out of this range. Coffee shops are to be found anywhere on the globe, from the Western world to the Muslim and the extreme East, as they reflect more than just a consumer mentality, they actually function as social life centers, where people talk, write, or pass their spare time in the most appealing of environments.

Coffee shops are great places where people underage can gather and have fun listening to live or recorded music, they way they wouldn't be able to do in some bar; the atmosphere is absolutely great and most coffee shops feel like cozy places where everybody is at home. The specificity of a regular coffee shops differs from one part of the of the world to another: alcohol is served in some such establishments, not to mention that Amsterdam coffee shops are also pretty comfortable with cannabis free use.

Going to coffee shops for a birthday party or a funny evening with your friends could be a great idea. As paradoxical as it may seem, though caffeine is said to cause insomnia, most people who attend such establishments order all sorts of strong coffees particularly in the evening; 9 o'clock in the evening is the right time to gather for a flavored drink and some good live music. Whether it is jazz or blues, music and coffee go very well together; some locals even have an Arabian specific in both decorations and the type of music they play which adds up to the exoticism of the house.

One thing to be tried in coffee shops is Turkish coffee, which is one of the specialties, actually some coffee experts claim that you can label a coffee house after the quality of Turkish coffee they serve. Furthermore, ultra modern facilities combine the coffee shop destination with the wi-fi interest of young generations: this combination actually resulted in the appearance of the hybrid coffee shops that also function as Internet cafés. The phenomenon has spread to such an extent that presently, all respectable coffee shops also provide Internet access to the interested customers.

In 1475 the world’s first coffee shop opens in Constantinople.  In 1995 it was estimated that 400 billions cups of coffee were consumed a yearly.  Other monks drank the brew and are able to stay alert for their long devotional and prayer times.  So begins the history of coffee. A monk sees this and takes some of the berries to a monastery to make a brew with the berries. Upon seeing the goats become friskier after eating these berries Kaldi of Ethiopia decides to try the berries.  He feels much frisker after eating the berries. It tells of a young goat herder in Ethiopia watching his goats eat red berries. One of the first legends about coffee comes from around c850.

top reasons why im a coffeehouse lover

To me, there is nothing more relaxing and conducive to creative juices flowing than sitting in a comfortable, overstuffed chair with a hot cup of coffee or tea by my side. First and foremost, I'm a writer. There are many reasons I'm a coffeehouse lover. I don't have time to deal with foaming and frothing milk, nor do I want the hassle of steam burns and a mess in the kitchen. Also, I get something at coffeehouses that I can't get at home: a decent espresso drink. The service at coffeehouses is amazing, and the people there are always smiling and cheery (even at the God awful hour of 6 am). If that's not worth $3, I don't know what is! When I go to a coffeehouse, everything is prepared perfectly and I don't have to clean anything up. Plus, the variety found at my local coffeehouse is unlike anything in any home I've ever seen. While I like cappuccinos and lattes as much as the next girl, sometimes I like to switch things up a bit. When I feel like a cup of ginger green tea, I can have it. If I change my mind and decide that I want a sweet and blended frozen beverage, I can have that too, all without having to go to a store. Also, the company found at my local coffeehouse is second to none. There are artsy people, professional men and women in suits, college students and more. It's a slice of life and something I appreciate sitting in the midst of. I don't have to pay $60 a month for wireless, I can just head down the street to a coffeehouse, something I'd be doing anyway. Probably the best out of all of the reasons I'm a coffeehouse lover is the fact that I can get free wireless internet.

spas and keurig a perfect marriage

Did you know there has been an increase in spas located directly in medical and dental offices. Being directly involved in the dental profession, I personally know many dentists that have provided the opportunity for their patients to relax during their dental visit. They provide, many times at little to no cost, relaxation services including full body, head, eye, foot, hand, or neck massage, relaxing music, movies, televisions on ceilings, vibrating chairs, facials, make up applications, and aroma therapy. These Dental spas are where people can get their dental work performed in a relaxing state and environment.
Now imagine this tranquil ambiance of the spa environment office paired with a $20 dollar multi-cup sludge machine providing stale coffee. Well this scenario actually was occurring in one of my good friends practice. I could not imagine how he went the whole 9 yards without realizing the final yard required a premium beverage experience. This is where the Keurig single cup coffee maker comes in with its sleek design and its near 200 varieties of premium coffee, tea, and cocoa. In less than 60 seconds a clients palette can be tantalized with Timothy's finest caffeine free Chamomile Tea, or the luxuriously deep flavor of Ghirardelli Premium Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa. Maybe Van Houtte Classic Creme Brulee Coffee might be ones calling. Or how about the fine quality of Celestial Seasonings Decaf Green Tea. I think you're getting the point.
With all the money spent on technology for televisions, lasers, computers, vibrating chairs, and massage tables, most medical and dental offices surprisingly notice the coffee maker being the most cost effective way to make patients feel cared for and special.  A Keurig Coffee Maker ideally should be placed in the waiting room where patients can browse the selection and make a cup of delight at the touch of their fingertips.  The anxious, nervous patient can relax with a cup of green tea, waiting moms can recharge with a cup of cappuccino, and kids love the sweet taste of cocoa.
As more people are demanding and paying for a spa like experience in all professional settings, it seems consistent that the Keurig Coffee Maker provides the perfect partner in this endeavour. So hear me all health professionals; if you're creating a spa experience for your clients, please provide them the perfect complementary beverage from Keurig.  It will help build patient trust, provide comfort and added relaxation, and most importantly boost patient referrals.

keurig is great customer service

My first introduction to the Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker was in the dental office. I work in an office that strives to stand apart from its competition by focusing greatly on customer service. With all the money that we spend on technology in the dental opera tory with lasers, televisions, and computers, the coffee maker has surprisingly been the most cost effective way to make our patients feel cared and special.
We placed one in the waiting room where patients can browse the selections and make a cup of delight at the touch oh their fingertips. The anxious patient can relax with a cup of green tea, waiting moms can recharge with a cup a cappuccino, and kids love the warm sweet cocoa. Our staff is constantly sneaking out into the waiting room to help themselves to a cup of gourmet coffee. I am also guilty! My favorites include the Lemon Blueberry Passion Tea, the Cinnamon Mocha, and the Half Calf for afternoons where I find myself dragging but don't want to up all night.
It was not long after this purchase that a  Keurig Coffee Maker made it into my house as well as the home of my mother. What a great gift by the way! I was the only true coffee drinker in my home so it was great to be able to brew a gourmet cup just for myself. But now with all the delicious choices, my husband has become a fan. Not to mention it's always a big hit with guests.
Now I think the Keurig should be everywhere. Salons and spas usually offer a glass of water or tea, so why not an assortment of 190 different flavors of coffee, tea, and cocoa available in less than a minute? Car dealerships, medical offices, or any place with a waiting room can benefit from a Keurig Coffee Maker.

A number of Fortune 500 companies have discovered that one of the most treasured perks they provide for their employees is something they might never expect - coffee! The answer might be surprising. Many employers often wonder what their employees want, besides a raise of course.

Take a look at what some of the best makers of single serve coffee makers with coffee pods offer your office. Why choose coffee pods for your office break room? Today, coffee machines that use coffee pods are among the most popular office coffee machines on the market, and with good reason. The critics were not kind about the coffee either, but all that has changed. At the time, they were expensive and there were few varieties available. Coffee pods first made their appearance on the market about a decade ago.

The coffee maker does not pick up all the oils from the brewing process either, meaning that you get fresh, clean coffee every time around. Also, because you are only making one cup at a time, there's no coffee to turn to burnt sludge in the bottom of the pot. Also, because you are only making one cup at a time. Each pod is pre-measured with the precise amount of coffee, tea or cocoa to make one perfect cup at a time. With coffee pods, those issues are grievances of the past. That was partly because the pot inevitably sat on the burner and scorched the coffee, and partly because the pot inevitably sat on the burner and scorched the coffee, and partly because the machine just didn't get cleaned often enough. No matter how good the coffee you started with, it soon turned into oily black sludge. Previously, many workers felt 'office coffee' was synonymous with mud.

Easy Cleanup

Easy Cleanup

Coffee pods also mean no more messy drips and grounds on the counter of the break room. The coffee grounds are completely contained in the pod. When the coffee is done, you just eject the pod and throw it away. Your coffee room will stay clean, making it a more inviting place for your workers to brainstorm and work together.

Save Money

Save Money

When the best coffee in town is right there in the break room, your employees are far less likely to wander off looking for a coffee shop. More time at the office and less time spent standing in line waiting for a cappuccino at the local shop is good news for you. Your employees will be happier and more productive. At the same time, they will be saving money on all those specialty coffees bought over the counter. Even if you decide to establish a coffee fund, they will be paying far less per cup for coffee pods at the office than they will for a paper takeaway cup from the local shop.

Everyone gets what they like!

Everyone gets what they like!

One of the best things about replacing the office coffee pot with a single cup brewer and a coffee pod system is the selection of beverages available in coffee pods. With selections of coffee ranging from light breakfast blends to full-bodied espressos, everyone in your office can have the style and flavor of coffee that they like best. Coffee enthusiasts can find flavored coffees among varieties such as vanilla, hazelnut, mocha and even blueberry. Even better, most of the single serve coffee systems that use coffee pods are not confined to just making coffee. Depending on the supplier you choose, you may be able to also receive an assortment of flavored teas and gourmet hot chocolate drinks as well.

The Best Coffees Available

The Best Coffees Available

As single cup coffee makers have gained acceptance and popularity, the selection of coffees available in coffee pods for brewing has grown exponentially. The biggest reason for that is the number of nationally known fine coffee roasters who have jumped on the bandwagon to offer a variety of their coffees in pod form so that you can enjoy the same coffees that you love at the coffee shop. Among the coffee roasters who now offer their coffee in pods are Seattle's Best, Starbucks, Melitta and Baronet. Java One offers a wide variety of coffee blends, and Senseo, makers of the Senseo single serve coffee system offers their own line of a dozen different coffee varieties that range from a light, tart Brazilian that will please most American palates to their latest gourmet offering, a rich, sweet, dark coffee appropriately named Café Noir, with just a hint of chocolate in the finish.

A coffee pod system can pay for itself in happier workers and increased productivity, and your staff just may vote you supervisor of the year. Your office staff will appreciate the investment in a coffee pod brewing system.

tassimo coffee brewing tutorial

Coffee lovers’ options greatly improved with the advent of the one-cup coffee maker. Now, instead of having to venture out to get a cup of gourmet coffee, you can brew everything from a premium french roast to a dreamy cappuccino or soothing tea at home, in less than a minute, with coffee makers such as the Tassimo Brewing System.

Whether you’re the owner of a Tassimo Brewing System or are just looking to learn more about the stylish coffee machine, this guide provides helpful information on what makes the Tassimo Brewing System unique and how to get the best brewing results with each and every cup:

What is the Tassimo Brewing System?

The Tassimo Brewing System is a convenient, easy-to-use single cup coffee maker. The machine features a large water reservoir and an adjustable cup pedestal that can accommodate regular coffee cups or large travel mugs.

What sets the Tassimo machine apart from other single cup brewers is the use of Tassimo T-Discs instead of coffee pods. T-Discs work exclusively with the Tassimo system and contain precisely measured amounts of coffee, tea, chocolate or concentrated milk. This means there is no grinding, mixing or measuring required in order to make the perfect hot beverage. The Tassimo system also offers manual settings that allow you to adjust for individual taste preferences.

What makes the Tassimo system unique?

The Tassimo Brewing System’s combination of T-Disc technology and Bar Code technology make it easy to brew a perfect cup every time.

As noted above, each T-Disc contains perfectly measured amounts of coffee, tea, chocolate or concentrated milk. The brewing process takes place inside the T-Disc as the discs internal components guide the flow of hot water using a process called “inverse filtration.”

With inverse filtration, the water is pushed upwards into the T-Disc then delivered to your cup, making for a more efficient flavor extraction process. Because the water flows from the T-Disc directly to the cup, you can brew different flavors of drink, one after the other, without the intermingling of flavors.

Each T-Disc also comes with a unique bar code printed on the label. This bar code tells the machine how to prepare your beverage. When you insert the T-Disc, the machine reads the bar code and calculates the brewing time, the amount of water needed, and the optimal brewing temperature. If you prefer, you can manually adjust the water amount or brewing time for a cup that is customized to your taste.

What can I brew?

With the Tassimo Brewing System you can make your favorite flavors of coffee, tea, real milk lattes and cappuccinos, café crema and hot chocolate. T-Discs are available for some of the most celebrated brands and varieties including Gevalia Swiss Hazelnut, Jacobs Latte Macchiato, Suchard Hot Chocolate, Twinnings Chamomile Tea, Seattle’s Best Breakfast Blend, Carte Noire Petite Dejeuner and coming in December 2007, four original Starbucks coffees.

How do I use the Tassimo Brewing System?

Using the Tassimo Brewing System is as easy as one, two, three:

1. Choose your favorite beverage brand and flavor, then insert the T-Disc upside down into the machine and place your mug on the cup pedestal.
2. Place your mug on the cup pedestal and push the start button. The Tassimo T-Disc bar code reader reads the discs and automatically calculates the settings needed to brew the perfect beverage.
3. In about 60 seconds, your cup is full and ready to enjoy.

Manually making your drink stronger or milder is easy. For large cups or travel mugs, hold the start button in after the brewing cycle has completed to dispense more water. You can also press the start button during the brewing cycle to halt flow of water for a stronger taste and smaller cup.

The large water reservoir holds about 68 ounces of water so you can make several cups before refilling. The reservoir is clear, so you will know when you need to add more water.

Clean up is a breeze. Just wipe the surface and bar code reader with damp soft cloth. The machine comes with a reusable cleaning disc that should be used every 7 days. All removable parts are dishwater safe, except the water reservoir which should be rinsed out with every filling.

T-Discs should be kept in a cool dry place away from direct light. The concentrated, real milk T-Discs used in cappuccinos and lattes do not need to be refrigerated. T-Disc’s are designed to be used once and discarded.

The Tassimo Brewing System is the perfect system for those with diverse tastes and little time. Follow the steps outlined above and you’ll be rewarded with years of fast and easy brewing, with no mess and little cleanup.

coffee houses little known facts that you probably didnt know about coffee houses

Besides serving food and beverages, coffee houses are great places to interact socially with other people, read, write, do homework or just pass time. Providing coffee, tea, light snacks and lunch type food they offer a great mishmash of both. Coffee houses, when you think about it, are very similar to bars and restaurants. People would go to them to drink coffee or tea, listen to music, play games like chess and backgammon and read. In fact, since the 16th century they've been prominent in the Middle East. While one would typically think that coffee houses started in Italy, but that isn't the case. Shortly thereafter, others started springing up in places like Cairo and Istanbul. In 1530, the first coffee house opened in Damascus. It wasn't until the 17th century that coffee first made an appearance in Europe. The first recorded coffee house in Italy opened shop in 1645. This was followed by the first coffee house in England, in Oxford, in 1650. After that, they spread like wildfire, hitting America in 1670 in Boston. Charles II wasn't a fan of coffee houses, and tried to discourage people in London from going to them by characterizing them as places where the disaffected met and spread scandalous reports concerning the conduct of His Majesty and his Ministers. Instead of keeping people away, people flocked to them. Coffee houses were open to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, and became associated with equality. That said, women weren't allowed into them. Also, many churches used them for outreach purposes, gaining membership and spreading the word of God. Bob Dylan got his start running the coffee house circuit, as did the Beats. In American coffee houses in the 1960s, musicians and poets had found a home. Later on, this obviously ceased to be the case.

the story behind senseo and the douwe egberts corporation

The Senseo coffee pod system is the product of a partnership between two world leaders in their field with a common background. When Douwe Egberts, the world's second largest coffee roaster, teamed up with Royal Philips Electric, one of the world's leading innovators in electronic devices, the result was bound to be sensational. It was a match made in heaven, at least if your heaven includes wonderful coffee. Douwe Egberts In 1780, his son joined the family business and together, they expanded their holdings, adding more shops throughout the region. De Witte Os sold coffee, tea and tobacco to the townspeople, and was more than moderately successful. Egbert Douwes opened a small shop in Joure, The Netherlands back in 1753. Familiarly known as Sara Lee/DE, the company is a subsidiary of Sara Lee and employs over 26,000 people around the world. Since then, Sara Lee and Douwe Egberts has become the second largest coffee roaster in the world. In 1978, the company was acquired by international food corporation Sara Lee. Over the next twenty years, the company added sales in Belgium, France and Spain. In 1948, Douwe Egberts began selling coffee, tea and tobacco in Belgium. The company prospered, and continued to grow throughout The Netherlands, but it was not until the mid-20th century that it expanded beyond the borders of its homeland. The Douwe Egberts brands include Pickwick tea, Douwe Egberts coffee, Piazza d'Oro espresso, Cafitesse, Pilao coffee and of course, Douwe Egberts. Royal Philips Electronics In The Netherlands in 1891, Gerard Philips founded a small electronics company focused on making light bulbs and other technical electronic equipment. By the 1920s, the company had begun to expand its line of products and make a name for itself as an innovator in the electronics field. In the 1920s, they began to manufacture vacuum tubes, acquiring holdings in both Germany and England as subsidiaries. In 1939, Philips began marketing their electric shaver, which is sold in the U.S. as Norelco, and which has become the standard bearer for their personal care division. Among the other innovations that have come out of Philips are the audio cassette tape (introduced by Philips in 1963) and the compact disc (developed in partnership with Sony). Philips today is a worldwide leader in manufacture and sale of color television sets, lighting, electric shavers, medical diagnostic imaging and patient monitoring, and one-chip TV products. Since 2001, the company has won over 60 design awards for personal care and electronic appliances. A Beautiful Partnership In 2001, Douwe Egberts teamed up with Philips to introduce the Senseo system, the single serve coffee system that uses a patented pad brewing system to make coffee and other hot beverages. The Senseo was first introduced in February 2001 in The Netherlands, and became available in the US in 2004.

The system uses a patented coffee pod (called a pad in some countries) that holds a premeasured amount of coffee or beverage mix and fits into the brewer. The brewer heats water to the correct temperature and dispenses the beverage after brewing. The major innovations in the Senseo were the single cup brewing system and the use of the coffee pad.

Sara Lee/DE's part of the partnership is, of course, coffee. Douwe Egberts offers a wide variety of coffee blends to suit most tastes, as well as tea in pods to fit the Senseo machine. The current blends include Sumatra, Brazil, Kenya and Colombia, each of them with the characteristics common to the named region. In addition, there are selected specialty beverages, including espresso, cappuccino and Cafe Noir, a sweet, dark blend with a chocolate finish. There are also flavored pods, which include Paris (vanilla caramel), Vienna (hazelnut, vanilla and mocha), and a number of limited edition varieties that are currently only available in select European locations. For tea lovers, Douwe Egberts offers Earl Grey and Minty Green T-pods for the Senseo.

Patent-ly Perfect

This allows flexibility in making the coffee or tea of your choice utilizing the Senseo Brewing System. In addition, several pod makers on the market allow consumers to make their own coffee pods. As of 2004, the year that the Senseo was introduced in the US, other companies have the legal right to make and sell coffee pods that fit the Senseo system. The patent was successfully challenged in the Belgian court. In 1998, Sara Lee/DE filed a patent in Belgium to protect their use of the coffee pad system.
