How to Make a Good Cup of Coffee

There is one thing that most adults love first thing in the morning, a cup of good coffee. Nothing tastes better than a hot coffee, that is made well. There are a few things that go into great tasting coffee. I will explain what it needs to give you what you want, the best coffee possible.

First off, is the coffee grind, this is very important for a number of reasons. For starters you should realize that the finer the coffee grind, the more flavor that can be extracted from the same volume. It's important to buy the grind as fine as possible, or if you own your own coffee grinder that you grind it properly.

It is also important for you to follow the instructions outlined with your coffee maker or espresso machine. You should measure the water and coffee according to the number of cups you need to make, this will ensure you are adding the right amount of water in conjunction with the coffee grind. Another tip to consider, that many people don't realize is that if you reheat your coffee it will have a bitter taste. Coffee always tastes best when it is freshly made, reheating it the next day will give you less than favorable results.

I was mentioning the right amount of water to use, but it's also to important to use the right type of water. To get the best possible taste, you should use cold water that has been filtered through a water filter. Some people recommend actually using ice when brewing coffee, this is also supposed to enhance the flavor, never tried it myself though.

After the coffee is brewed, you add sugar but how much and what type? I recommend using light brown rather than refined white sugar, personally I think it gives the coffee a more enhanced flavor. Some people enjoy a little bit of milk in their coffee, make sure to warm up the milk, cold milk detracts from the hot coffee experience.

I have also read that adding just a pinch of salt to the coffee grounds will actually enhance the coffee flavor, this method is supposed to take out the bitterness out of your coffee. I haven't used that tip as of yet. And remember to clean your coffee machine thoroughly after after each and every use this will also give you a better tasting cup of coffee.

Lastly, the type of coffee bean you choose is very important. The coffee beans that you choose should be well roasted, not burned! For the best results I prefer to use 100% arabica beans, but this is just personal preference more than anything.

    Coffee, Anyone?

Who, in their lifetime, hasn't popped into a coffee shop to meet friends and loved ones, and after spending an hour or two drinking and gossiping, popped out again no worse for the experience?

    Most of us.

But there have been times in the history of mankind, when the drinking of coffee meant a difference between getting that girl of your dreams and not getting her.

In the cold land of Lapp, in the month of January or February, the Lapp people had a habit of gathering together at one of those Fairs to make their last purchases before meeting again the next year.

But while the older folks where busy buying the odd reindeer or two, the young men were more happily engaged in checking out the female talents, for since time immemorial Fairs where always a great recreational grounds for matrimonial stakes.

When a Lapp boy hit upon the girl that suited him, it was usually the custom for the girl's family to invite him to their tent where, after sitting quietly for a while, the boy would ask if anyone would like a cup of coffee.

Immediately cups and saucers, together with the coffee pot and all other accoutrements needed for the brewing of coffee, would be produced by the girl's family, and the boy would set to. This was not your instant coffee time. You couldn't just say ‘one spoonful or two?' This was brewing your coffee; and not on an electric stove, either. It was usually boiling over an open fire at worst, and on top of a wood stove at best. But in any case, it was not the even temperature of the regulated form. It was very much in the lap of Vulcan, God of Fire. And as all other Gods agreed, not only did he have a fiery disposition, he wasn't particularly nice either.

However, whatever the temperature, sooner or later cups of hot coffee would be produced and placed in front of the waiting family. What would happen next would seal the lad's future.

If the coffee was drunk, the lad was deemed to be engaged and well on his way to be married. If the coffee remained untouched, the courtship was over before it had begun. The would-be groom might as well pack up his bags and return to the Fair, for there was nothing for him in this particular tent.

He would just have to try his luck with someone else, and hopefully his coffee-making skills would have improved enough for him to be more successful with his courtship the next time round. No feedback whatever. Was it too weak? Was it too strong? Was the coffee not brewed enough? Had he been clumsy? He would never be actually told what he had done wrong.

is coffee an old drink for older people

office while working and yes even while walking the dog. They drink on the way to work, the Dr. Multi tasking has effected coffee as people get more and more coffee to go. Store brand coffees have fallen while quick fix coffee houses are on the rise. While coffee consumption is up by 9% from 2001 most of the rise comes from people on the go. It appears 74% of folks over sixty are having their daily brew. “I just have to have my morning shot of caffeine. claims Dora Mc Fadden of Vista California. Today's young crowd is opting for their quick fix, from such brands as: “Fire Power, “XO, “Roaring Lion, “Four and “Game Juice which has more appeal to the youth in name alone. But coffee is being challenged by the energy drink people. For some people drinking coffee is literally an eye opening experience. It seems coffee drinkers look forward to the quick fix more than the taste. Ingredients such as: Taurine, ginseng, guarana, and good old caffeine provide a high jolt of energy quicker with less long lasting effects. Younger folks are looking for more bang for the buck and are finding it in energy drinks. According to statistics, the younger (18-24 year old crowd has turned their attention toward energy drinks as only 37% indulge in coffee as their favored drink. That's a stark difference from the the 40-59 year-old crowd where 60% prefer hot coffee. The National Coffee Association (believe or not there is a coffee association) has come up with these figures as a testimony to American's love for its' dark liquor. Even though energy drinks will become more popular; Coffee will continue to be America's most favored hot drink. Where is the future of coffee?
